چکیده

Our world is dominated by visual information and a tremendous amount of such information is being added dayby-day. It would be impossible to cope with this explosion of visual data, unless they are organized such that we can retrieve them efficiently and effectively. The main problem in organizing and managing such visual data is indexing, the assignment of a synthetic descriptor which facilitates its retrieval. It involves extracting relevant entities or characteristics from images as index keys. Then a representation is chosen for the keys and specific meaning is assigned to it. Color is an important cue for Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) systems. We propose a technique to index and store images based on dominant color regions. Features like region size and location of the region are extracted and used as similarity measures. Images with similar indices are stored as an image cluster in a Hash table. A prototype of the retrieval system is developed using JAVA language.

Color and Shape Index for Region-Based Image Retrieval

Most CBIR systems use low-level visual features for representation and retrieval of images. Generally such methods suffer from the problems of high-dimensionality leading to more computational time and inefficient indexing and retrieval performance. This paper focuses on a low-dimensional color and shape based indexing technique for achieving efficient and effective retrieval performance. We pr...

Grouping and Indexing Color Features for Efficient Image Retrieval

Content-based image retrieval (CBIR) aims at searching image databases for specific images that are similar to a given query image based on matching of features derived from the image content. This paper focuses on a low-dimensional color based indexing technique for achieving efficient and effective retrieval performance. In our approach, the color features are extracted using the mean shift a...

Image Retrieval Based on Regions of Interest

Query-by-example is the most popular query model in recent contentbased image retrieval (CBIR) systems. A typical query image includes relevant objects (e.g., Eiffel Tower), but also irrelevant image areas (including background). The irrelevant areas limit the effectiveness of existing CBIR systems. To overcome this limitation, the system must be able to determine similarity based on relevant r...

Content - Based Image Retrieval Based on Color - Spatial Features

A novel technique for Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) that employs both the color and spatial information of images is proposed. A maximum of three dominant color regions in an image together with its respective coordinates of the Minimum-Bounding Rectangle (MBR) are first extracted. Next, the Sub-Block technique is then used to determine the location of the dominant regions by comparing t...

About the Embedding of Color Uncertainty in CBIR Systems

This paper focuses on the embedding of the uncertainty about color images, naturally arising from the quantization and the human perception of colors, into histogram-type descriptors, adopted as indexing mechanism. In particular, our work has led to an extension of the GIFT platform for Content Based Image Retrieval based on fuzzy color indexing in the HSV color space. To quantify the performan...
